The dental hygienist

The title “dental hygienist” is a title protected by the BIG Act. Only graduates who have successfully completed the HBO (Higher Vocational Education) training to become a dental hygienist may use this title.

The dental hygienist focuses on prevention and oral care to prevent and counteract tooth decay and gum disease. The dental hygienist can help you with your oral care and/or the prevention of tooth decay (caries or cavities) and gum disease. It is important that you visit the dental hygienist every 6 months, in addition to the visit to the dentist, for a check-up. The purpose of this visit is to keep your teeth and gums healthy and to be able to enjoy your teeth for a long time.

A referral from the dentist is not required. You can make an appointment on your own initiative. This is completely free of obligation.
